    The ACGME has officially approved the appointment of Dr. Paige Fox to the position of Residency Program Director (PD) for Stanford's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS).

    Dr. Bertelsen Retires

    Breast surgeon Dr. Carl Bertelsen has announced his retirement effective September 30, 2019. Bertelsen was the first surgeon recruited to practice at Stanford’s new Cancer Center South Bay (CCSB) in 2013.

    AAST Inducts 12 New Members

    The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma inducted 12 new members with Stanford Surgery affiliations this past weekend at their 78th Annual Meeting in Texas.

    Stanford Hosts ESOT 2019 via Livestream

    Stanford University hosted a satellite meeting on Sept. 17th during the 19th Congress of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT). Delegates in Copenhagen and around the world were able to participate online as the session was streamed live. School of Medicine Dean Lloyd Minor was a key speaker and the Division of Abdominal Transplantation's own Dr. Waldo Concepcion was a moderator of the session.

    Dr. George Wins Subspecialty Young Investigators Award

    Vascular Surgery Resident Dr. Elizabeth George won the 2019 Subspecialty Young Investigators Award from the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS).

    HERC Receives 5 More Years of Funding

    The Health Economics Resource Center (HERC) has received five more years of funding. The $720,000/year grant is from the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Health Services Research & Development Service (HSR&D)

    Dr. Wong Receives AAS Travel Award

    General Surgery Resident Dr. Sunnie Wong has received a 2019 Travel Award from the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS). The award includes complimentary registration to attend the AAS Fall Course this October as well as a stipend to help allay travel costs.

    Stanford University's Department of Surgery has committed to reviewing all fellowship and residency applications sans the customary photo.
