Julio Palmaz revolutionized cardiology and vascular medicine by inventing the world’s first stent. He holds more than 60 issued patents and has been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame and the National Academy of Inventors. In 2019 he received the Russ Prize from the National Academy of Engineering. He is the Ashbel Smith Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center, scientific advisor to Vactronix Scientific and the vintner at Palmaz Vineyards.
