Q & A with Lieutenant Commander Jesse Bandle, MD

The VA Palo Alto's first fellow to be in the military—active or veteran.

August 14, 2019

Dr. Jesse Bandle (center) performs a minimally-invasive surgery with Dr. Dan Eisenberg (left) at the Palo Alto VA.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

A: I graduated from residency and was board certified in 2015 and have been practicing in Okinawa since then.  I was able to work at both the hospital on Okinawa and be attached to Fleet Surgical Team Seven (FST-7), where I did surgery while on the active Navy large deck amphibious assault ship, Bonhomme Richard (LHD-7).

Q: What brings you to Stanford Surgery?

A: I'm here for a one-year fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) and Bariatrics before going back to my next billet in the Navy.

Q: Why MIS?

A: I've chosen MIS because it is the where the "pointy edge" of surgical innovation lives and continues to be the driving force pushing the boundaries of what we know we can do as surgeons. I want to come back to the Navy with the best training and deliver the best care to our armed forces. I couldn't be happier to be here with the VA and Stanford Staff who are making that happen!
