Dr. Knowlton Receives AAST Scholarship

April 23, 2020

Dr. Lisa Knowlton, an assistant professor in the Division of General Surgery, has been awarded the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma's (AAST) Research Scholarship. The $50,000 grant will fund her project, titled "Evaluating Enrollment of Uninsured Trauma Patients in Medicaid at the Time of Hospitalization Due to Injury," from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.

"The project will study the time of injury hospitalization as a potentially under-utilized opportunity to obtain sustainable insurance coverage for uninsured trauma patients through Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) emergency Medicaid programs. State-level insurance claims data and mixed methods will be used to evaluate factors associated with HPE approval and longer-term sustained Medicaid coverage among uninsured trauma patients," said Knowlton.
