2021 | A Year in Review

2021 is coming to a close and is one for historians to debate the long-standing impact of COVID, science, social unrest and injustice on our society. I feel so fortunate to have weathered the ups and downs of this past year with my Stanford Surgery family.

Science brought us vaccines that have withstood the onslaught of the COVID variants; while not perfect at preventing disease, they have significantly diminished the virulence of the disease. This has allowed us to begin to return to some normalcy of meeting in person, hosting our visiting professors as well as the Society of Clinical Surgery—and what a way to end the year with our FABULOUS holiday party! It was so wonderful to see so many of you and the great time you had reconnecting with our community. Many thanks to Joseph Martinez for creating the event that was fun, safe and fed both our tummies and our souls!

I wish you all a joyous and restful holiday season! 2022 is around the corner, and I am so hopeful for the future of Stanford Surgery!
