Dr. Weiser Assumes new Director of Global Engagement Role

Dr. Tom Weiser will serve as the inaugural Director of Global Engagement for the Department of Surgery. In this role, he will facilitate collaboration and expansion in education, research, clinical training, and innovation that can elevate the profile of Stanford Surgery and advance our mission around the globe.

"[Dr. Weiser's] extensive experience leading collaborative research and educational projects in LMIC countries will be a great asset for serving in this role for the Department," wrote Department Chair Dr. Mary Hawn in her announcement to the department.

Dr. Weiser is an associate professor in the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Section and a consulting medical officer for the international nonprofit Lifebox. His research is focused on evaluating the role surgical care plays in the delivery of health services in resource-poor settings and was part of the team that created, implemented, evaluated, and promoted the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.
