2019 | A Year in Review
2019 has been a year of enhancements, advancements, and growth. We opened a new 824,000-square-foot hospital with 28 state-of-the-art operating rooms and a dedicated SICU. We broke into the Top 10 of NIH rankings for grant funding both as a university and as a department, several of our surgeons took on national roles of prominence:
Chief of Vascular Surgery Dr. Ron Dalman is president-elect of the Society for Vascular Surgery
Chief of Transplant Surgery Dr. Carlos Esquivel is president-elect of the International Pediatric Transplant Society
Dr. Geoff Gurtner, director of Stanford’s Wound Care Center, is president of the Wound Healing Society
Department Chair Dr. Mary Hawn was elected secretary of the American Surgical Association & Director to the new Governing American Board of Surgery
Chief of General Surgery Dr. Electron Kebebew is taking over as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Thyroid
Vice Chair of Education Dr. Jim Korndorffer was elected to the SAGES board of directors
Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Dr. David Spain is president of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma
