Dr. Dunn stands with past PAPS presidents at the 2023 Annual Meeting in Bali, Indonesia.
The Pacific Association of Pediatric Surgeons (PAPS) met in Bali, Indonesia for their 56th Annual Meeting.
Stanford Division of Pediatric Surgery Chief Dr. James Dunn presided over the meeting.
“The meeting was well attended with more than 380 people from 25 countries,” said Dunn. “We enjoyed hearing about the Indonesian cultures and learned from different surgical practices.”
In lieu of a presidential address, as is the PAPS custom, Dunn invited Dr. Tom Krummel, professor emeritus, to present the Journal of Pediatric Surgery Lecture. Additionally, several Stanford faculty and trainees presented their work:
- General Surgery Resident Dr. Madeline Adams presented “Regional block via single-shot caudal to avoid intubation for open inguinal hernia repair in neonates.”
- General Surgery Resident Dr. Taylor Anderson presented “Ileal Lengthening through Internal Distraction: A Novel Procedure for Short Bowel Syndrome.”
- Associate Professor Dr. Claudia Mueller presented “Managing a New Diagnosis of Anorectal Malformation: A Provider Guide.”
“There is a continued need for more pediatric surgeons in low- and middle-income countries,” said Dunn. “We will continue our efforts to bridge this gap and improve pediatric surgical care.”
