Dr. Arbaugh Receives Inaugural Well-Being Award

Dr. Carlie Arbaugh is the recipient of the Office of Graduate Medical Education’s inaugural GME Well-Being Award. Arbaugh was chosen out of more than 50 nominations.
“It is with immense pleasure that our GME Well-Being Award Committee congratulates you on being awarded an inaugural GME Well-Being Award for your exceptional contributions to promoting and supporting well-being within the GME community at Stanford,” wrote Becky Blankenburg, MD, MPH, Chair of GME Well-Being Awards Committee.
The Well-Being Award "services to recognize the outstanding work accomplished by residents and fellows at Stanford that help to:
- promote and support well-bring
- address structural causes of well-being
- improve access to trainee mental health
- foster a safe and inclusive learning environment
- create a sense of belonging and community."
Arbaugh was specifically recognized for her work with the Surgical Babushka program and the Physicians Learning about Nutrition Together (PLANT) study. She also served on the GME Well-Being Community's Improving Access to Mental Health subcommittee.
“I'm so honored and truly touched by all the thoughtful and kind things that folks took the time to write in these nominations,” said Arbaugh. “I look forward to continuing to partner on these initiatives within the Department of Surgery, GME Well-Being Committee, Stanford Health Care, and the community more broadly.”
The GME Awards Ceremony was held Monday, May 13th at Berg Hall. This was the first time all of the GME Diversity, Professionalism, and Well-Being Awards were presented at one ceremony. The Miquell Miller Award for Promoting Diversity and Inclusion was presented to Pediatrics Resident Dr. Lisa Umeh. This award, which was established in 2020, was inspired by General Surgery Residency Alumna Dr. Miquell Miller.
