Dr. Sherry Wren holds the great mace at the American College of Surgeons 2023 Clinical Congress convocation.

Stanford Surgery staff, faculty, and trainees were everywhere at the American College of Surgeons 2023 Clinical Congress in Boston, Massachusetts on October 22-25. Highlights included:

Dr. Sherry Wren led the procession at convocation carrying the great mace as part of her role as secretary of the college. Drs. Dan Delitto and Rahim Nazerali were also inducted into the college as fellows during the ceremony.
The Surgical Metrics project, led by Dr. Carla Pugh and the TECI Center, gathered data in the exhibition hall from hundreds of surgeons with the help of staff volunteers.
e-Posters of “exceptional merit” were presented by two members of the Longaker Lab: Charlotte Berry and John Lu.

Bio

As the Director of Communications for Stanford Surgery, Rachel Baker tells the stories of her department's faculty, staff, and trainees. With the help of an amazing team of content creators, she produces and curates original articles, photos, videos, graphics, and even podcasts.She works personally with each division, center, program, and lab within her purview to define their audience and reach their goals while maintaining a consistent brand voice. She hosts quarterly professional development workshops open to all AEM web authors--please email her if you'd like to join! She also offers both 1:1 and group education to faculty and residents on a variety of topics including media training, using social media to advantage, and presentation refinement. Rachel holds a Bachelor's degree in journalism with a focus on photography from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. A transplant from the DC-area, she still misses foliage and argyle but has happily adopted the official NorCal hobbies of visiting wineries, hiking local trails, and eating avocado.

Dr. Sheckter Receives ABA Peter Brigham Award

Dr. Clifford Sheckter received the Peter Brigham Award at the American Burn Association (ABA) Annual Meeting which took place April 9-12, 2024 in Chicago, IL. He won the award for his work on Home Oxygen Therapy, a treatment that provides additional oxygen to individuals recovering from burn injuries.
