Dr. Visser Receives AHPBF Humanitarian Award

April 1, 2022

Dr. Brendan Visser has received the Gazi Zibari Global Outreach Humanitarian Award from the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Foundation (AHPBF). The award is named after past AHPBA president, Dr. Gazi, for his outstanding humanitarian contributions abroad and to honor his passion for medical outreach. The purpose of this award is to recognize an AHPBA Member who has dedicated a significant amount of time to volunteer medical outreach activity and capacity building abroad.

"This award is to recognize all his hard work and dedication to improving HPB care in Latin America so it’s really awesome to see him recognized internationally for it," said Dr. Visser's HPB Colleague Dr. Monica Dua. "I can’t tell you the countless hours he has spent preparing and giving presentations previously in person but also throughout the last two years on zooms, (almost always in Spanish with great detail), mentoring surgeons down there, inviting them to observe cases here, making videos for them, and helping trainees over there. I mean he was invited once for the opening of a new cancer center as a guest speaker."

Dr. Visser serves as chair of the Education & Trainee Committee for the IHPBA and is the HPB Fellowship Program Director at Stanford.
