Stanford Surgery Year-in-Review 2024

As 2024 closes, I am in awe and a personally grateful beneficiary of what our amazing Department can do. Having suffered a trauma, requiring intensive care, surgery, and significant care coordination, it is definitely a testament to you all that I am here, summarizing our accomplishments. A huge heartfelt thank you!

Our Department continues to deepen our impact in so many ways. Here at the Palo Alto campus, we’ve had some firsts! To mention a few, we did our first liver transplant for a patient with localized colorectal liver mets, our first ex vivo liver tumor resection, and implanted our first spring to lengthen the intestine in a pediatric patient. None of these types of interventions are possible without the skill and fortitude of our surgeons to provide exceptional care for our patients and the incredible teams it takes to see these innovations through.

We are growing in many dimensions, allowing us to expand our impact even further.  As our East Bay program continues to develop, more patients will have access to amazing Stanford Surgery care.  We’ve increased the size of our residency programs with the best and brightest future faculty surgeons and are so proud of all that our trainees do. Our scientific discovery, papers, and grants continue to shape the future of surgical investigation. We couldn’t do any of this without our incredibly dedicated and talented staff who truly help make all this magic happen.

Happy New Year!
Mary
