Stanford Surgery Announces New Chief of Plastic Surgery
April 16, 2026
Dr. Arash Momeni will be the next Chief of Stanford’s Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, effective September 1, 2026.
“Stanford Plastic Surgery is my professional home; it shaped me, supported me, and gave me a career I am deeply proud of,” said Momeni, who is a graduate of Stanford’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program. “I sought this role because I want to ensure that every surgeon who comes through this program has that same opportunity for a professionally fulfilling life.”
Momeni joined the Stanford faculty in 2017. He is an associate professor specializing in microsurgery and Co-Leader of Stanford’s Breast Cancer Care Program. He is also an active member of multiple national and international surgery societies; he currently serves as Vice President of both the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and the German-speaking Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery. Additionally, Momeni was named Associate Editor of the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery this past October.
“Dr. Momeni is an internationally renowned reconstructive surgeon with significant contributions and a compelling vision for the Division,” said Department Chair Dr. Mary Hawn. “[His] leadership will be instrumental as we continue to grow and elevate our Division of Plastic Surgery.”
Momeni will succeed Dr. Jim Chang, who is stepping down after 20 years.
“Dr. Chang has grown this program in an unprecedented way, and I look forward to partnering with him and our entire team to elevate Stanford Plastic Surgery even further,” said Momeni.
Both Momeni and Hawn expressed thanks to the search committee members — led by Dr. Electron Kebebew — and the academic affairs staff for conducting the search.
