"Great Saves" Added to Department M&M
The Department of Surgery is adding a "Great Saves" component to its monthly Morbidity and Mortality Conference (M&M). Starting in 2023, each M&M will begin with a Great Saves Presentation highlighting instances when a team works together to achieve an excellent patient outcome.

Stephanie Edelman, MBA took on the title Vice Chair and Director of Finance and Administration for the Department of Surgery effective December 1, 2022.

Dr. Nassar Promoted to Clinical Associate Professor
Dr. Aussama Nassar has been promoted to Clinical Associate Professor effective February 1, 2023. Dr. Nassar is board certified in General Surgery and Critical Care. He is Unit Medical Director of the Trauma K7 ward, Director of the Surgery Coaching Program, and Program Director for the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship.

A leader in U.S. hospital quality ratings has given Stanford Health Care and Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley top grades for safety. Stanford Health Care was also named a top teaching hospital.

Christine Reyes-Santos is the Residency Program Manager for Stanford’s Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program. She started her term as the President of the American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons Program Coordinators in October 2022.

Dr. Weiser Promoted to Clinical Professor
Dr. Thomas Weiser has been promoted to the rank of Clinical Professor of Surgery effective January 1, 2023. Dr. Weiser is a trauma specialist and surgical intensivist in the Division of General Surgery. He also serves as the Department's Director of Global Surgery.
