Dr. Eisenberg Receives Inaugural Harvey’s Award
June 11, 2025
Dr. Dan Eisenberg’s paper, “2022 American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO): Indications for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery,” has been selected as one of the inaugural recipients of The Harvey’s Award.
The award is presented jointly by the TREO (Treatment, Research, and Education to end Obesity) Foundation and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases (SOARD). It celebrates the enduring legacy of Dr. Harvey Sugerman, founder of SOARD and past president of ASMBS. Two impactful papers—one focused on integrated health and one on surgical practice—have been selected for their significant contributions to the field.
“This is a real recognition to his work in the field,” said Dr. Sherry Wren, chief of general surgery at the Palo Alto VA. Eisenberg is a professor in Stanford’s Division of General Surgery and has served as the Palo Alto VA’s Director, Bariatric/Minimally Invasive Surgery since 2007.
Eisenberg will be recognized during the TREO Foundation Starlight, Star Night LEAD Awards & Gala, which will take place on Wednesday, June 18, during the ASMBS Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
