Dr. Aaron Dawes has been awarded a K08 by the National Institutes of Health for his research project, “Optimizing Medicaid Managed Care to Improve Access, Quality, and Clinical Outcomes for Patients with Gastrointestinal Cancers.”

According to the NIH website, the Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award is “for junior clinicians with little-to-moderate research training who wish to become independent clinician-scientists trained in basic research in aging.” These awards typically provide three to five years of salary, mentored research support, and protected time under the guidance of an experienced mentor.

Dr. Dawes is an assistant professor in the Division of General Surgery’s Colorectal Section. He is also a health services researcher with a focus on policy development, measurement, and evaluation for patients with colorectal conditions. He holds a PhD in Health Policy and Management from UCLA School of Public Health.
