March 30, 2021

Dr. Shipra Arya has been awarded the Society for Vascular Surgery's E.J. Wylie Traveling Fellowship. The Fellowship pays up to $12,000, allowing the recipient to visit a number of vascular surgery centers around the world. In her application, Arya proposed four centers based on expertise.

"My interest in the E. J. Wylie Traveling Fellowship is to gain a more comprehensive understanding of perioperative optimization and prehabilitation care models at various centers across US and Canada and develop such a center at Stanford," said Arya.

Arya is funded by the National Institute on Aging and American Geriatrics Society to study the impact of frailty on the quality of surgical care in vascular surgery patients.

"This is a prestigious recognition from the Basic and Translational Research Committee of the SVS, given to the most promising young academic surgeon less than 10 years in practice (based on the competitive application process)," said Dr. Ron Dalman, Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery at Stanford and President of the SVS. "This is a great opportunity for Dr. Arya to travel to meet thought-leaders in her area of academic interest and compare notes and develop research collaborations."

Arya is an Associate Professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery as well as Section Chief of Vascular Surgery and Director of Quality at the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System.
