Lorenz Will Serve as Next Vice Chair for Professional Development

April 24, 2023

Dr. Peter Lorenz will serve as the Department of Surgery's next Vice Chair for Professional Development. Lorenz will take over from Dr. Sherry Wren who has served in the role for the past seven years.

"I owe a debt of gratitude to the phenomenal work that Sherry Wren accomplished in her time as our VC for Professional Development culminating in the Junior Faculty Retreat," said Department Chair Dr. Mary Hawn. "I know she has had an impact on so many of your careers and will miss working with her in this capacity."

Dr. Wren was elected Secretary of the American College of Surgeons in October.

"I’m proud to have served the department as our first vice chair for professional development and DEI, and I thank Dr. Hawn for trusting me with these roles. I’m still here and always available to anyone in the department if they want to meet with me," said Wren. "Drs. Lorenz and Chao will continue to develop and grow our faculty programs, and I’m excited to see their leadership in the role."

Lorenz says he's already planning a new faculty retreat event for September 2023 and is thrilled to work with Dr. Stephanie Chao as the associate vice chair for professional development.

"Dr. Wren has developed a strong program for professional development and mentoring, and I am honored to build on her work," said Lorenz. "I am looking forward to working closely with the department faculty and enhancing our career development process."

Lorenz is a Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery and a funded researcher. He also recently served on the School of Medicine Academic Appointments and Promotion Committee.
