Gahagan Elected Tri-Valley Chief of Surgery

November 27, 2024

Dr. John Gahagan has been elected the Chief of Surgery for Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley (TV) effective January 1, 2025.

At TV, aside from Ortho, all surgeons are essentially in the Department of Surgery (General, Plastics, Cardiac, Thoracic, Urology, Podiatry, etc). Chief of Surgery is an administrative role, elected by the  members of that department.

“I think this election speaks to the continued impact that our division has on the Tri-Valley hospital and community,” said Gahagan. Stanford’s Division of General Surgery began offering outpatient surgical services at the Pleasanton campus in 2020.

As chief, Gahagan will represent the TV Department of Surgery and report to the Medical Executive Committee and to the Chief of Staff at the Tri-Valley Hospital regarding all professional and administrative activities within the department of surgery including patient care and professional performance, participate in the  administration, budget planning and clinical growth of the department. He will also serve as a member of the Medical Executive Committee, providing guidance on the overall medical policies of the Medical Staff and the Hospital, and make recommendations and suggestions regarding the department.

Gahagan is a clinical assistant professor specializing in colorectal surgery.
