Dr. Deshka Foster, a Chief Resident in the General Surgery Residency program, has been awarded her second grant from the SPARK Translational Research Program. Her project, which will be conducted in conjunction with Surgical Oncology Specialist Dr. Jeff Norton is entitled “Targeting JUN signaling to prevent abdominal adhesion formation.”

"This is a wonderful example of the collaborative and impactful work being done by our faculty and trainees," wrote Division Chief Dr. Electron Kebebew in his announcement.

Dr. Foster started her research into abdominal adhesions while working on her PhD in the Longaker Lab during her professional development time. She received her first SPARK grant, also in conjunction with Dr. Norton, in Jan 2021.
