Dr. Foster Wins AWS Outstanding Resident Award

Dr. Deshka Foster has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 Dr. Hilary Sanfey Outstanding Resident Award by the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS). This award recognizes surgical trainees who are in primary residency training, in general surgery or a surgical specialty, who demonstrate potential as a future leader in surgery.

"Dr. Foster is an incredibly strong role model – she has pursued rigorous clinical training, obtained a PhD, been a highly productive scholar, and became a parent twice, all while maintaining her compassion, humanism and commitment to teaching," said General Surgery Residency Program Director Dr. David Spain.

The award will be presented at the AWS Foundation Awards Gala in San Diego on October 17.

Dr. Foster is the fifth winner of this award from Stanford Surgery. She joins the auspicious company of Drs. Leora Balsam, Maureen Tedesco, Stephanie Chao, and Sepideh Gholami.
