Edelman Advances to Vice Chair

Stephanie Edelman, MBA took on the title Vice Chair and Director of Finance and Administration for the Department of Surgery effective December 1, 2022.

"This is an important change—adding the Vice Chair role to her title—recognizes her strategic contributions and leadership for our entire department," said Department Chair Dr. Mary Hawn in her announcement.

Edelman is the first staff member Vice Chair in Surgery.

"Stephanie’s key decisions have helped every division be profitable, negotiate strong contracts for the work our faculty do, create strong staff development and promotion opportunities, shore up department finances that position us to be strong well into the future," said Hawn. "She is the voice for surgery at many important levels in the school and the hospitals. We are all so fortunate to have her as a key member of our leadership team."

Edelman has been at Stanford for more than 37 years, 15 of them with the Department of Surgery. She earned her Masters in Business Administration from San Jose State University in 2000.
