Dua, Sheckter Receive Travel Scholarships

Drs. Monica Dua and Clifford Sheckter have received traveling faculty awards.

Dr. Monica Dua received a travel scholarship from the Society for Asian Academic Surgeons (SAAS). She will deliver the George P. Yang SAAS Lectureship at UT-Southerwestern.

"[Dr. Shipra Arya] did it last year and is the one who forwarded me the application and said 'apply to this,'" said Dua. "I am really excited about it and honored that—out of all the named ones—I received the George Yang lectureship."

Yang was a resident and faculty member at Stanford as well as a founding member of SAAS.

Dr. Clifford Sheckter received a Travelling Fellow Award form the American Burn Association (ABA). The ABA will compensate him for travel to other burn centers in the US and Canada.

"I’m very grateful that I'll have this opportunity to learn from them and share my research," said Sheckter.

Dua is a clinical associate professor in the HPB section of the Division of General Surgery. Sheckter is an assistant professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
