Dr. Choi Appointed Research Advisor for Republic of Korea

August 13, 2025

Dr. Jeff Choi has been appointed as a Research Advisor for two of the Republic of Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare's government efforts:

1) mitigating preventable injury-related mortality and
2) revamping national standards for evaluating and designating trauma centers.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to assist in building a more robust trauma system that can save the lives of more injured patients," said Choi.

Choi, a graduate of Stanford General Surgery Residency Program and current Surgical Critical Care Fellow, says he has maintained connections with Korea's trauma surgeons over the years, visiting their centers during vacation, collaborating on research efforts, and helping their teams arrange visits to Stanford. He says a fellow surgeon who knew his research background gave his name "to the congresswoman spearheading one of the efforts."

"This opportunity was possible because of the Department of Surgery and the Section of Acute Care Surgery's uncompromising support throughout residency, including support from Mission Boost to travel to Korea in June to present our research and strengthen connections with many trauma centers." said Choi.
