Dr. Chandra Assumes Leadership of Vascular Surgery Training Programs

May 11, 2020

The Division of Vascular Surgery's Training Program has a new director. Dr. Venita Chandra has assumed leadership of both the Vascular Surgery Residency and Fellowship Programs.

"Congratulations again to Dr. Chandra on her assumption of this important responsibility on behalf of the Division and Department, and much appreciation to Dr. Lee for his program stewardship over these last nine years," said Division Chief Dr. Ron Dalman. "This is an important transition for the Division—only the third PD change in 27 years of postgraduate medical education in vascular surgery at Stanford Surgery.”

Dr. Jason Lee is excited for the opportunity to take on a larger national role, having been recently elected President-Elect of the Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery. But he says he couldn't leave the local program in less than excellent hands, which is why he has been actively transitioning the programs to Chandra over the past year.

"Dr. Chandra is a product of our unbelievable educational experience here and a great choice to lead the programs," said Lee. "She will continue to pursue the excellence we've always championed while focusing on new initiatives."

Chandra graduated from the Stanford General Surgery Residency Program in 2011. Upon completing the Stanford Vascular Surgery Fellowship in 2013, she was immediately offered a position on the faculty.

"This program has obviously shaped me and turned me into the vascular surgeon I am today. I am so honored to be a part of this unbelievable training program, which has really been at the forefront of training vascular surgery leaders under the guidance of Dr. Lee," said Chandra. "I am honored to be able to carry on the tradition and to guide our training program to continue to be one of the preeminent training programs in our specialty."

Dalman preceded Lee in the PD role, which was first established by Dr. Christopher Zarins in 1993.
