AWS Selects Dr. Tso for 2026 Patricia Numann Outstanding Medical Student Award

General Surgery Intern Dr. Jade Tso was selected by the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) and the AWS Foundation as the 2026 Patricia Numann Outstanding Medical Student Award recipient.
Tso was nominated by her mentor at UC Davis, Dr. Cameron Gaskill, while our own Dr. George Poultsides provided the letter of support. Tso did a sub-Internship with the Surgical Oncology Service at Stanford as part of the Stanford Clinical Opportunity for Residency Experience (SCORE) Program.
In his letter to the AWS, Poultsides wrote that Tso was intelligent and capable as well as an effective team leader.
“Jade Tso belongs to the elite of medical students who have matched into General Surgery this year,” wrote Poultsides. “You will be hard-pressed to find a better resident to train and work with.”
This award is named in honor of the founder of AWS and was established to encourage and support female medical students pursuing a career in surgery. It will be presented to Tso at the annual AWS Gala on September 27, 2026, at the Grand Hyatt Washington in DC during the Academic College of Surgeons Clinical Congress.
