    Dr. Nguyen Promoted to Clinical Professor

    Dr. Dung Nguyen has been promoted to Clinical Professor effective December 1, 2021. "Dr. Nguyen has done it all - from having an incredibly busy breast reconstruction practice, to directing the SHC Plastic Surgery Clinic, to performing cutting-edge research in lymphedema treatment, and to teaching microsurgery overseas in Vietnam," wrote Division Chief Dr. James Chang in his announcement. "She has been a phenomenal colleague, teacher, and physician."

    Transplant Surgeon Dr. Khoa Thomas Pham will be promoted to Clinical Associate Professor effective February 1, 2022.

    Dr. Ling Awarded NIH Grant to Study Right Ventricle Dysfunction in Peds

    Bruce Ling, PhD was awarded a grant from NIH to study right ventricle dysfunction in pediatric patients. The almost $200,000 in funding will support his project: An automated system to interpret echocardiography to predict adverse outcomes in patients with right ventricular dysfunction in daily hospital practice.

    Dr. Amanda Kirane received a 2022 ACS IRG Pilot Grant from the Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI). The award will support her proposal, “Biomarker Analysis of Neoadjuvant Intralesional Therapy in High-Risk Melanoma."

    Balance in Life Program Expands to Include All Department of Surgery Trainees

    Stanford Surgery’s Balance in Life Program (BIL) has been expanded to include all Department of Surgery trainees. Started in 2011, BIL was created to support the physical, psychological professional, and social wellbeing of physicians in the General Surgery Residency Program. Now in its 11th year, the Department has decided to extend the program’s offerings to residents in the Divisions of Vascular and Plastic Surgery, as well as all clinical fellows in the Department.

    Drs. Mary Hawn and Carla Pugh have been elected to the National Academy of Medicine.

    Dr. Derek Klarin received a Career Development Award from the VA's Biomedical Laboratory Research and Development Department. The funding will go towards his research project "Clonal hematopoiesis and risk of PAD."

    Dr. James Dunn has received an R01 from the NIH. The more than $350,000 grant will find his project "Spring Mediated Enterogenesis" for the next year.
