Welcome to Stanford Surgery! And congratulations on choosing surgery! We're honored you're considering our program as a place you want to spend the next seven years of your life. As we navigate another pandemic year, we know not everyone will be able to make it to campus in person. Professional Development

Wellness

"At Stanford Surgery, we work hard and we play hard. We take wellness seriously, because we know that if our faculty, trainees, and staff are burnt out that it will negatively impact patient care, their personal lives, and their professional fulfillment."

-Dr. Mary Hawn, Department Chair

In addition to the school-wide Stanford Well MD/PhD Program, our department's Balance in Life Program (BIL) has been helping residents bring their best selves to work for almost a decade. From meetings with sports psychologist Lisa Post to day-long team building events, BIL is dedicated to physical, psychological, professional, and social wellness of all our trainees. Originally developed by General Surgery, the program now includes vascular and plastic surgery.

Life outside Stanford, is incredibly varied. Within a few hours of campus are natural wonders including Big Sur and Yosemite National Park; cities with world-class food, museums, and sporting events; and pristine public beaches. Whether you prefer to ski, surf, hike, bike, or go wine tasting, everything is all right here.

"Innovation" isn't just a word in our vision statement, it's a promise to our patients that we will continue to improve surgical care.
