Staff Buddy Program

During the first few months on the job, a new staff hire looks to affirm if they made the right decision in selecting an organization as their workplace. They look for things like a sense of belonging and community as well as access to resources and support both professionally and personally.

The Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Surgery Staff Buddy Program aims to create a more inclusive onboarding process to new hires that fosters a sense of belonging and acceptance into the Stanford Surgery community. A buddy will be assigned to all new hires to help guide them through their first three months of employment.

The buddy will act as a ‘tour guide’ and will help the new hire navigate their way through the systems, processes, and culture of Stanford Surgery. The goal of the program is to ensure that all new staff hires in the Department of Surgery feel connected and supported from day one, thus promoting increased productivity, job satisfaction, and employee retention.
