Dr. Esquivel Awarded Collaboration Grant

Dr. Carlos Esquivel, chief of the division of abdominal transplantation, in conjunction with Intermountain Healthcare General Surgeon Dr. Manuel Rodriguez-Davalos has been awarded an Intermountain-Stanford Collaboration Grant. The almost $100,000 will fund their proposal “Advanced Quantitative Modeling Techniques to Enhance the Use of Segmental Grafts in Liver Transplantation” for the next year starting December 1.
"The organ shortage for livers has reached epidemic proportions, so the aim of the project is to develop tools to facilitate training of young transplant surgeons for splitting livers to increase the donor supply using 3D printing," said Dr. Esquivel.
