Dr. Choi Receives Chest Wall Grant

January 30, 2020

Dr. Jeff Choi, a resident in the Division of General Surgery, has been awarded the 2020 Martin Resident Fellowship in Chest Wall Injury Outcomes Research from the Chest Wall Injury Society and KLS Martin Group. The $25,000 grant will fund his project “Development and Validation of a Rib Fracture Frailty Index.” Dr. Choi has also been invited to attend the Chest Wall Injury Summit in Denver, Colorado this April.

Despite the seemingly minor anatomic deformity, rib fractures can result in serious complications and mortality. Our trauma service cares for a substantial rib fracture patient population, which is growing nationally," said Dr. Choi. "From a growing surgical stabilization program to collaborations with SWAT and AI teams, I think there is tremendous potential for Stanford to be a national leader in the care for patients with chest wall injuries."
