Residency & Fellowship ProgramsResidency Programs
Clinical training in the Department is conducted in all the major surgical
subspecialties. A hallmark of our clinical training programs is our very
well regarded residency programs in:
Emergency Medicine
General Surgery
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Fellowships
Each of these programs is fully accredited and in their most recent
reviews were lauded for their excellence. Along with these residency
programs and the newly established fellowship in Surgical Innovation
are several well established clinical fellowships in Breast Surgery,
Bariatric Surgery, Craniofacial Anamolies, Hand Surgery, Transplantation,
Vascular Surgery, and Wilderness Medicine. Graduates of our programs
can be found throughout the country in advanced training programs, as
faculty in other prestigious programs or as private practitioners.
Other education programs include weekly department and division grand
rounds, teaching conferences, and special lectures (such as the prestigious
Emile Holman Lecture, the Thomas Fogarty Lectureship on Innovation, and
Lawrence Crowley Lecture on Pediatric Medicine). Many of these educational
opportunities are open to the public. Surgery faculty are active members
of the broader Bay Area community and often participate in Stanford University
Medical Center Health Library programs and other continuing medical education
forums throughout the country.
